A former newspaper reporter and investigative journalist, I am the author of six books including two novels, a work of creative nonfiction (CNF), a medical memoir, and an anthology for newly-diagnosed MS patients.
I’m currently working on The Making of a Millennial Minister, about a thirtysomething Massachusetts Unitarian Universalist minister. (More on my books here.)
As a freelance writer, my articles and blog posts have tackled topics ranging from U.S. politics and media criticism, to health, education, and pop culture. I’ve had work published in the Boston Globe, the Washington Post, and the Baltimore Sun, as well as the HuffPost, STAT News, Intima: A Journal of Narrative Medicine, and Health Central. (More on my writing here.)
I have appeared at bookstore events, private book club gatherings, on professional panels to discuss writing and media literacy, and in front of civic, religious, charitable, and school audiences. Topics have ranged from discussions about my writing — memoir writing, writing about health, and Gen X motherhood, raising twins — to media criticism, news literacy, and online/social media techniques.

Additionally, I am a faculty member at Bay Path University where I teach creative nonfiction courses for the MFA program, including narrative medicine, the art of the profile, essay writing, and general creative nonfiction writing. I also teach journalism and writing at Northeastern University. (More on my teaching here.)
I am a member of the Board of Trustees for the Greater New England Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. I also volunteer for the chapter’s Government Relations Advisory Committee and as an MS Activist to promote issues on behalf of the multiple sclerosis patient community.
I live in the Boston area with my husband and our rescue dog Tedy. (That’s wise-guy Tedy on the right, sitting at my desk at the top of this post.) My three kids are now young adults who’re launching careers, although there’s a beloved revolving door of people living in the house at any given moment.
